SCORE

"I HAD TROUBLE AT FIRST UNDERSTANDING THIS, BUT IT DOES GET EASIER"

TOUCHDOWN

(TD) 6 points…scored when a player caries or catches the ball across the opponent’s goal line.  A team is also given a TD when any player who is inbounds catches or recovers a loose ball behind his opponent’s goal line/Endzone. This kind of TD can occur on a kickoff, punt, or fumble.

EXTRA POINT

1 point…it is awarded after a TD. When the kicker kicks the ball between the goal post.

TWO-POINT CONVERSION

2 points…when the offense takes the ball into the end zone instead of attempting the Extra Point after a touchdown.

FIELD GOALS

3 points…normally attempted on fourth down if the kicker is close enough to the end zone to kick the ball through the posts.

SAFETY

2 points…when a member of the offense is tackled with the ball in his own end zone.

HAIL MARY PASS

Also known as a shot pass. It is a very long forward pass thrown near or into the endzone; typically made in desperation. It has a very small chance of success.
